For as long as I can remember, I have loved buttons. The button I picked off my costume when I performed in Little Annie. The button I found underneath the Statue of Liberty when I saw it for the first time. The button from the pink jumper I wore until way past the time I’d grown out of it. Buttons are ways of remembering times and places. I think that’s why I fell in love with buttons and decided to start making button jewelry.

I started out with button bracelets.

The thing about button bracelets is that I’m not really a bracelet person. Anklets yes. Bracelets not so much.

Then I moved on to necklaces.

I have a few crocheted necklaces with buttons on them. Very pretty. But I prefer lace chokers instead.

Then I discovered button rings.

And I was suddenly in love. Red, pink, purple, blue, green, orange, and any other color I wanted. The buttons I collected over the years–from clothing, from places, from thrift shops–all became useable, wearable, pieces of art.

Want to know the best part?

They’re adjustable. So when the summer comes and my fingers swell, I just make them a little larger and I’m good to go. I love the bright colors and the memories the buttons hold for me.

So wear a button ring and wear a memory
